I was asked to write a guest blogger piece on Geni.com, a popular family history and genealogy website. The post is about creating your own recipe book based on family recipes. Now is a great time to get that project started, and if you hustle you can have it ready in time for Christmas — it makes a great gift. I put one together about seven years ago, and while it was a lot of hard work, it was worth every minute. Most family members drag it out several times per year when looking for traditional family recipes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day.

There aren’t a ton of places in Los Angeles that stay open 24 hours. Compared the rest of the world’s big cities, Los Angeles could be considered “The City That Sleeps Well.” But there are a few, including Canter’s Deli, The Pantry, The Kettle, Fred 62, The Standard, and my favorite, Pacific Dining Car. For some reason, I have a hard time remembering that Pacific Dining Car is always open. Maybe it’s because the place is fancy, and it always feels like a special occasion.

A few days ago, I received a Thrillist email that reminded me of Pacific Dining Car’s late night menu.

PDC has special pricing on most items, and whether you are in the mood for steak or Eggs Benedict, they have you covered. If you have the late-night or early-morning munchies, check them out at either of their two locations in Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles.
