Reuben Heaven: Brent’s Deli - Northridge, CA
As home of the famous Black Pastrami Reuben, Brent’s Deli will not let you (or your stomach) down!
This traditional Jewish delicatessen has lots of regulars. Be aware that you might feel a little out of the loop at first, but after a few visits, you’ll be part of the family. The servers are sweet and attentive to everyone. Just make sure to avoid peak hours as they have a lengthy wait at times.
The Pastrami Reuben is their #1 item, ordered by a guest every couple minutes. It’s served on grilled rye bread with melted Swiss cheese, hot sauerkraut and Russian dressing. The price tag is $14, and this is something you definitely NEED to split with a friend. You pick the fries you want on the side (sweet, curly, thin, or steak) and you should get an extra side of Russian dressing for added flavor, if you can handle it.
A Savory Meal at STOUT — Studio City
If you live in The Valley and you love burgers and beer, but you hate having to drive to South L.A. every time you’re fiending, we’ve found your G-Spot. (Gastropub Spot, just to be clear.)
Stout Burgers & Beers, located on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City between Vineland & Tujunga, is a chill spot to experience some unforgettable pairings. Don’t fret Hollywood foodies, they’ve got another location down there for you. (Santa Monica and Pasadena locations coming soon.)
These sneaky newbies hide their gems. Kickass hidden menu items include:
Fried Zucchini Sticks: Tried it, loved it!
Pretzel: The staff talked up this “giant” pretzel for 20 minutes. I regret not ordering it!
Truffle Burger: Brie, truffle sauce and garlic sautéed mushrooms. I’m not a huge truffler, but I’ve heard great things about Stout’s.
Hipster Hot Spot #1389: Fatty’s Public House - West Hollywood
What do you get when you pair eclectic dishes with strong-ass drinks? Fatty’s Public House in WeHo of course!
The former residence of Fatty Arbuckle is now a newborn gastropub on the west side of La Cienega Blvd, smack dab in the middle of Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose Ave. If you weren’t that hungry on your way, you’ll be good and starved by the time you find parking. ($8 Valet)
Fatty’s is a bit fancier than our usual hangouts, but pinch your pennies and trust that it’ll be worth the splurge. Super mellow by day, hipster hot spot by night.
Let’s get down to business. The first thing I did was take advantage of their full bar. All of the signature crafted cocktails sounded great, but I picked “Life of the Party” because I’m modest. My wilder friend went for “Desert Hero” for more of a kick.
Pizza Rev: A REView - Northridge
It’s a Revolution! Correction: It’s A Pizza REVolution!
Face it: you’re bored of the same delivery pizzas at parties disappointing the pizza gods. Wanna go crazy and craft your own? PizzaRev is revolutionizing the art of artisan pizza. They’re in Studio City, Woodland Hills and Northridge. Like many other CSUN students, I head over to Reseda Blvd’s PizzaRev whenever I’m feeling creative.
