Girl Meats World. Meat 22: Hog
I’ve been such a meat hog lately
From Haven Gastropub in Orange
Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! Kick it off the right way by visiting the nearest gastropub and enjoying a most likely excellently priced happy hour and burger selection. Really though, I’ve never been to more gastropubs ever before in my life until I started this 30 Meat challenge. They really know how to deliver exotic meats to the masses in a hip way. Haven Gastropub is no exception. I’ve been to this restaurant at least 5 times, and I never took the time to appreciate their unique appetizer selection. I always go straight for the burgers or zoom in whenever I see the word “truffle” (they have great truffle salad and truffle macaroni). To my surprise, they have roulade of hog’s head.
Girl Meats World. Meat 3: Elk at District 13
This was interesting. I’ve never in my life had elk before — or even seen it on a menu. So I assumed it was going to be hard to find here in LA. Guess what? I was wrong.
I consulted the lovely Yelp, and lo and behold, a restaurant that served elk was 10 minutes away from me! And that is how I ended up District 13 in Hollywood.
Girl Meats World. Meat 2: Lamb
Little Bo Peep Gone Bad
So I went to El Portal’s Restaurant in Pasadena…
…and a lamb shank was their special of the day! Of course I was going to get it, let’s be real. The meal came with El Portal’s Spanish rice, some cilantro/ onion mixture, beans, and a tasty gravy over the lamb.
Girl Meats World. Meat 1: Duck
Attacking the Quack
For my first meat, I went to Exotic Thai Cuisine in Burbank to try duck. Duck was already one of my favorite meats. I love duck feet, duck tongue, duck meat, duck liver (so sad foie gras is outlawed btw) and even duck egg!
